But seriously, there's still room for argument. You can argue about what "bring forth" means, you can argue about whether the "days" during Creation are literal days as we know them or something else specific to that story. Some people even see that passage as a sign of evolution with birds evolving from fish.

But most likely the person who claimed "that according to Genesis 1:20-22, the chicken came before the egg" was going on the "I never read 'And God created an egg'" theory.

God created a mature universe with mature animals, first, and made all animals to reproduce, to have sex, some to make eggs. Sex was God's idea, before liberals and others claimed it as theirs.

Hmm...chicken vs. egg debate...I always thought the egg came first, but that goes along the lines of my evolution beliefs, to me God started out simple and just let everything get more sophisticated, much like a game designer...start out simple and build up.

I actually know for %100 that it says

20 God said, "I command the ocean to be full of living creatures, and I command birds to fly above the earth." 21So God made the giant sea monsters and all the living creatures that swim in the ocean. He also made every kind of bird. God looked at what he had done, and it was good. 22Then he gave the living creatures his blessing--he told the ocean creatures to live everywhere in the ocean and the birds to live everywhere on earth

Notice the words "He also made every kind of bird" not He made every type of egg.

Actually the whole rhetorical question loses it's charm once you learn about biology.

An egg can't produce a chicken if it isn't fertilized and incubated. In other words, an egg is just breakfast without the involvement of both the hen who "laid" it, and the rooster who puts in his 2 cents worth. ;~D

Creation and evolution both answer the question pretty conclusively.

Actually the going rate for good stock is much higher than just a couple of cents. And the roosters not the only cock thats spurts semen that can feed a family.
